Signs Your Gutters Need to be Replaced:

Replacing your gutters with StormCare Roofing is the obvious choice. With our extensive knowledge of the proper way to service gutters, we will leave your home protected against gutter-related issues. Some signs that it may be time to replace your gutters are mold, fungus, or algae growth, sagging, or collapsed parts. If you notice multiple leaks, cracks, gaps, rust, or water pooling around your foundation, this may be a sign that your gutters are damaged. Gutters wear down over time, so keeping an eye on them is important in ensuring they remain intact. Not all gutter damage warrants a full replacement; our expert inspectors can take a look and determine what needs to be done. We offer free inspections and can work with you from quick repairs to full replacements.

Vinyl Gutters

Vinyl gutters are lightweight and cost-effective. They have the shortest lifespan of all the gutter materials, lasting only 10-15 years before requiring a replacement. They aren't very durable; PVC and vinyl are fragile, making them prone to breakage. They can also warp when exposed to high heat or blown away by high winds.

Vinyl gutters are a great deal if you're on a tight budget or are just looking for a short-term gutter solution. They are also great for homeowners who live by the coast. Metal gutters are prone to rusting with the high salinity in the air, so opting for vinyl is a great option.

Aluminum Gutters

Aluminum is the most common material used in installations of modern gutters. It’s lightweight and corrosion-resistant. Paired with having a moderately low cost with higher quality material that allows it to withstand impacts without taking much damage, aluminum gutters can last up to 20 years. It’s still prone to bending or denting since they are not as strong as some of the other heavier metals, so it’s important to be careful when you place heavy equipment against it.

Aluminum gutters are a great option for most homeowners. They are versatile due to their weather resistance and can be used in different climates.

Steel Gutters

Steel is one of the sturdiest materials on the market. This heavy-duty option comes in two types to choose from: galvanized or stainless steel. Galvanized steel has an outer layer of zinc. This increases its weather resistance and prevents rust from lasting you up to 20 years. Stainless steel is an alloy that makes it more rust-resistant, lasting you up to 25 years.

If you are near the coast, once the galvanized steel’s zinc coating comes off, the gutters will begin to rust, causing weakness and future problems, so galvanized steel may not be for you. Stainless steel offers superior weatherproofing and lasts longer, but costs more.

Copper Gutters

Copper is resistant to weather and corrosion and can last up to 50 years with proper maintenance. It’s considered a luxury metal that comes with a high price. It isn’t as durable as steel and requires more care, but it remains one of the most in-demand materials for both roofs and gutters. They naturally block any algae or fungus growth, making it impossible for any mold or mildew to grow.

Copper gutters are great if you want long-lasting gutters.

Zinc Gutters

Zinc and copper gutters are pretty similar. It is corrosion-resistant, lasts up to 50 years, and develops a protective patina, which gives it a look of a rough finish and protects it from weathering. Zinc is slightly less expensive than copper, so if you still want that luxury feel but want to save some money, opt for zinc gutters.

Zinc gutters are prone to damage from coastal air. The saltwater causes accelerated corrosion of the gutters. If you live by the coast, these gutters may not be for you.
