Going To Marketing Events

ree

Connecting with others with similar goals and interests and in the same field you want to grow in can be challenging. Finding these people and putting yourself out there is daunting and can cause you to retreat into your shell.

Recently, we have been sending our marketing manager to an event called ‘Un-Networking’, which sounds like it does the opposite of the intention of communicating with others, but it does quite the opposite. Instead of having the stress and weight of creating connections that don’t go past networking, this is a space where people talk about their marketing styles and struggles, giving advice to each other and helping others grow while forging relationships between group members. All while sipping on some coffee. Going into it, it seemed daunting, as any networking event might be, but it was welcoming, and it began by just getting to know each other and catching up. Connections like these aren’t found in typical networking events, everyone wants to get to know everyone, so there’s not much of an opportunity to truly connect, other than a LinkedIn. Here, our marketing manager was able to find other marketing groups across social platforms through members of the group and other useful resources for marketing.

Connections that go deep are essential in growing in any way you can. Surface-level connections can feel awkward when you reach out for help. But going to a group like this and getting to know each other beyond their job title is one of the best ways to continue growing.
